Obituary for Betty Jean Gibbs

Betty Jean Gibbs, 77, was born on January 21, 1946 to Robert and Mary Jo Gibbs. Betty passed from this world and into the presence of the Lord on Saturday January 13, 2024.

Betty grew up in Dallas and graduated from South Oak Cliff, Class of 1964. There, during her senior year, she proudly served as Captain of the Golden Debs. Betty went on to graduate from Summit Bible College with a Bachelor of Theology Degree.

More than anything else, Betty loved the Lord with all her heart and knew at an early age she was being called to serve as a minister of His word. Later in life she received a Certificate of Ordination that granted her the privilege to minister to others and help lead them to their salvation. Betty would often be heard saying to others, “Jesus is coming soon”, which opened the door for her to present the message of God’s love and His desire for everyone to accept Jesus as their Lord and savior and one-day dwell with Him in heaven for the rest of eternity. In her dedication to help others, Betty also created a Prayer Room on Facebook where followers made up of family and friends could go and ask for prayer as well as pray for others in need.

Betty was a devoted Christian who loved the opportunity to serve others without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. Betty was also a proud mother of two sons, Larry Reid and Aaron Radla, and often expressed that they were her greatest achievements in life. The most important wish Betty had for her sons was that they would live their lives as Godly men and would also be willing to provide service to others. Betty would also be heard saying that her favorite title was “Mom” and that nothing was more important to her than being a mother and grandmother!

Betty is survived by her son Larry Reid, daughter-n-law Christina Reid, and son Aaron Radla. Betty’s grandchildren include Ryleigh Reid, Rhett Reid, Wilson Rogers, Margaret Bristow and Matthew Bristow. Betty is also survived by her brother Robert Gibbs, Jr., and her sisters Mary Ann Tucker and Sara Alexander. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Jo Gibbs.

The memory of Betty’s love for others will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

To honor and celebrate Betty’s life, her family has planned a visitation on Saturday January 20, 2024 beginning at 1:00 pm. Betty’s funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 pm and be officiated by Blain Craig. Both visitation and service will be held in the chapel of Midlothian Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers are Larry Reid, Aaron Radla, Rhett Reid, Matthew Bristow, Mike Johnson, Robert Gibbs III and serving as Honorary Pallbearer is Ryan Johnson. Burial will follow at the Midlothian Cemetery for the immediate family members wanting to attend.

Flowers can be sent to Midlothian funeral home, or as an alternative, Betty’s family will be planting a rose garden in her honor as a constant remembrance of her life. If preferred, rose plants can be sent to the funeral home or given directly to her family.
