Billy Isom was born on November 19, 1940 in Paris, Texas and moved to Midlothian in 1954. In his early days, Billy was an active member and officer of the FFA, showing black angus cows and playing the mandolin alongside his closest friends in the FFA band. Billy worked for Kemp Ranch until 1967 when he opened Isom Texaco Tires, operating the business until 1997. He went on to serve for the air national guard and worked for the ellis county bridge & road, retiring in 2008.
Billy married the love of his life, Nellafay, in August of 1962, exemplifying Christ-like love throughout their relationship. The two became parents in 1965 to their favorite daughter, Kristi. Billy became a Poppi in 1996 to his grandson Jake and again in 2002 to his granddaughter Molly. He was eager to become a great “Poppi” to Marty, arriving in September.
Billy had a love for gardening - from flowers to vegetables, he found joy in growing and sharing his produce with friends and family. His love for gospel music, sports (namely baseball), summer “fish frying” groups and catering BBQ allowed him to foster lifelong friendships. Billy had a quiet compassion and giving heart, always seeking to help others and give back to his local community.
Billy is survived by his wife of 60+ years, Nellafay Isom; his daughter, Kristi Isom Odell, and his son-in-law, Rick, of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandson, Jake Odell, his granddaughter-in-law, Abby, and his soon-to-be great grandson, Marty, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his granddaughter, Molly Odell, of Edmond, Oklahoma; his sister, Frances Springer, and his brother-in-law, Wilson, of Waxahachie, Texas; his brother, Richard Isom, and his sister-in-law, Teressa, of Midlothian, Texas; his aunt, Wanda Bray, of Little Rock, Arkansas; other extended family, and a multitude of friends.
