Obituary for Charles Shelton Hatley

Charles Shelton Hatley was born June 5, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Mancel Wayne Hatley Sr. and Sudie Fay Holt Hatley. Charles was the third of six brothers.

Charles spent 56 years in the lumber business. He began his career at Craddock Lumber Company in Dallas, Texas from May1954 - December 1956 as a yardman and truck driver. From April 1957 - October 1974 Charles’ career continued with Dallas Wholesale Builders Supply in Dallas, Texas. He began as a truck driver advancing to shipping clerk to inside sales and then outside sales.

Charles made his final career move to Phillips Lumber Company in Cedar Hill, Texas in November 1974 - August 2010. He began in outside sales advancing to manager of prehung door plant and eventually was promoted to Sr. Vice President.

Charles was a man of character and integrity who loved and accepted people from all walks of life and believed everyone deserves opportunity and second chances. He was a history buff and avid reader, enjoyed good food and had a fondness for animals. In his latter years he took up the hobby of coloring. Charles was fun-loving with a great sense of humor. He kept us laughing even during the last difficult days.
