Obituary for Charles Wayne McMillion

Charles Wayne McMillion of Venus, Texas, passed quickly and peacefully at Mansfield Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2022.
Wayne was born on his family’s farm west of Midlothian, near Wyatt Switch on February 18, 1929. He attended school at Wyatt Switch, and high school at Midlothian High, where he was captain of the 1946 football team and a reporter for the school newspaper.

In July, 1947, he married the former Billie Ruth Hickman, the Midlothian FFA Queen and a cheerleader.
The couple moved to Fort Worth to begin their married life. Wayne, building on his experience working at Few Grocery in Midlothian, quickly rose to management at Swift and Company, and finally retired from Winn Dixie Distribution warehouse. Both Wayne and Billie also spend an important part of their careers at Curtis Mathis.

In 1979, Wayne and Billie bought two adjoining farms near Venus, building a house in 1982, and moving “home.” Even before retiring, Wayne raised cattle and any crops that might pay for fertilizing, planting, and harvesting. They loved their farm and the Midlothian area where they enjoyed family and many friends. Wayne and Billie loved all kinds of music, theater, and had a special love for extensive travel which they first enjoyed with son Charles, and then with daughter Susan. When they became empty nesters in the late 1970s, they joined with three other couples of family and friends to enjoy even more frequent travel together, all eight had a ball.

Wayne and Billie celebrated their 70th anniversary in July 2017, with many family and friends. Billie passed away in March 2018. Wayne continued living in their farm home until the day he died.

Along with son Charles, Jr. (and Marilyn), Daughter Susan (and Weyman) Martin, Wayne is survived by his older sister, Mary Walls of Burleson, and brother Colonel David McMillion (Ret’d) of Chevy Chase, Maryland, grandsons Casey Mason of Midlothian and Tony Mason of Arlington, great grandchildren Madden Mason, Maverick Mason, Twins-Anna and Raelynn Mason, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
