Obituary for Cheryl Darlene Watkins (Hughes)

Cheryl Hughes Watkins, 67, of Midlothian TX, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Cheryl was born in Cleburne, TX on August 28, 1954 to Ruth and J.W. Hughes. She was raised by her mother and stepfather Ruth and Chuck York. She lived the majority of her life in Midlothian, TX after she met Randy Watkins. The two were married in 1974. Together they had a daughter, Kristi, whom they loved with all their hearts.

Cheryl was a secretary at Citizens National Bank in Dallas and later at Midlothian National Bank for many years before becoming a stay at home mother so that she could make sure she attended any event or activity that Kristi participated in throughout the years. She was widowed in 1996 and never remarried. After her husband Randy’s passing, Cheryl began a new journey and worked for Midlothian ISD from 1999-2017. There, she became known as Ms. Cheryl and loved on the little ones at the Midlothian ISD daycare. She poured her love into the families who came through the daycare. After retirement and until her passing, she spent time taking care of her mother, daughter, and anyone else she knew that needed anything. She had a servant’s heart and would stop what she was doing to help any friend or family member.

Her family and friends remember her for her smile and friendliness to anyone she met. She enjoyed family gatherings and being the one who worked the room to make sure everyone felt like they were included. She loved playing games and getting the whole family involved. With her friends, she loved getting together for long lunches and spending time together visiting. She also loved being a mother and enjoyed any second she could be with Kristi. The two of them loved their time together no matter what they were doing. From talking on the phone, to movie dates, to going to an Elvis tribute concert! No matter what they were doing, they were having a great time.

She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Randy Watkins. She was also preceded by her father, J.W. Hughes, stepfather Chuck York, and brother Danny Hughes as well as her in-laws Sterlin and Grace Watkins of Midlothian, TX. She is survived by her mother, Ruth York of Cleburne, TX, her only daughter Kristi Watkins Ramirez and son-in-law, Michael Ramirez who live in Waxahachie, TX. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and people whose lives she touched throughout the years.
