Connie Lynn McComas went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2022, at her home in Midlothian, Texas. She was 77 years old.
Connie was born on December 9, 1944, in Dallas, Texas to Erman and Dorothy Johnson. She and her brother Johnny grew up in Dallas, where she attended Sunset High School. After graduating high school in 1963, Connie went to nursing school at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.
While doing her intensive care rotation at Methodist Hospital during nursing school, she was assigned a car wreck victim by the name of Daniel (Danny) McComas, who thought she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. After he was released, Connie called to check on him and six months later they were married. Over the next 56 years, Connie and Dan enjoyed a life of love and adventure, leading youth activities at their church and raising their two boys Mark and Scott.
Connie was an avid reader, and a speed reader at that, sometimes plowing through a lengthy novel in a matter of days. She traveled the world and could never pass up a garage sale or thrift shop wherever she went. She loved cats and Elvis Presley, even naming her favorite cat after the singer. But nursing was her passion. She began her career as an Emergency Room nurse at Methodist hospital. After her boys were born, she became the office nurse for Dr. George Sandusky, with whom she worked for almost 20 years. When she and Dan moved to Japan, she continued to perform drug testing for Olympic athletes. When she and Dan retired and moved back to Texas, she became a model patient for the medical schools to help educate the next generation of doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners.
Most of all, Connie loved her family. Dan was truly the love of her life, and she would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She volunteered as a chaperone for every school event and when her first grandson was born, she flew home from Japan to help care for him for an entire summer.
Connie’s faith was important to her. She and Dan were married at Church of the Nazarene and were actively involved in the service of the church, throughout their married life.
Connie is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Dan McComas, her son Mark McComas and his wife Debbie McComas, her son Scott McComas, and her grandchildren Kyle McComas and his fiancée Hope Rose, Sean McComas and his wife, Shianne, and great-granddaughter Magnolia (Maggie), and Kailey McComas. She is also survived by her brother Johnny, his wife Val, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was and is very much loved by her family. We will miss her dearly but will forever cherish the ways she has blessed all of our lives.
