Obituary for Craig Kenneth Toney

Craig Kenneth Toney, 62, passed away on March 13, 2021, in Midlothian, Texas, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 23, 1958, to Kenneth and Onita Toney. His childhood life was spent as a military brat and he lived in many places, but primarily spent his early life in Phoenix and Fort Worth. His first career was a short stint in the Army, and after that he spent his career as a long-haul truck driver and then his last 17 years as a driver for Albertsons.

Craig loved to fish, and ride his motorcycle with his club, where he was nick-named Scratchy for his penchant of lottery scratch off tickets. One of his most favorite things to do was to spend time with his wife, Rita, on the beach in Mexico. He had great love for his grandchildren and spent many hours fishing with them. His eyes would light up at the mention of taking Britley, his granddaughter, out to the lake for some fishing time.

He first met his wife, Rita Flatt, in 1977, but life took them down different paths. They later met up in early 2001 where they both fell in love with each other again and married on July 1, 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; daughters Chrissy Toney Thomas, Cady Toney, and step-daughter, Melanie Welch; grandchildren, Autumn Toney, Colin and Cameron Hill and Britley Welch; sister Dyanne Glaze and her husband and his best friend of 50 years, Brad Culberhouse; brother Russell Toney and wife, Marie, and several niece and nephews.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Craig’s brother at heart, Tony McHorse and his wife, Tammy (aka Janet), for opening their home, their love and care of Craig during his final days. He and Rita are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends to help with Craig’s passage across the water.
