Obituary for Debra Lou Fromm

Debra Lou Fromm was born December 20, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to J.H. Averyt and Eleanor Reynolds Smith. In the presence of her husband, Debbie gently passed into the arms of her loving savior on April 22, 2023.

Debbie grew up in Dallas. Between her sophomore and junior year in high school she moved to Tyler, Texas. Debbie graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in 1970 and elected to continue her education at Abilene Christian College. During the first fifteen minutes of her freshman orientation, Debbie met her future husband, Dick Fromm. They dated for three years and were married on August 18, 1973. Debbie completed her undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian in May 1974.

Dick and Debbie moved to the Kansas City area the summer after graduation. Debbie taught special education in the Bonner Springs, Kansas school district for four years. After the birth of their first daughter, Amy Lou, the couple moved to the Dallas, Texas area. Debbie elected to be a stay-at-home mother for the next twelve years. During that time, their second daughter, Heidi Edel, was born. Debbie loved being a mother and she loved her girls very much. She taught her daughters about Jesus and they enthusiastically accepted the Christian faith.

In 1991, the Fromm family moved to Gilmer, Texas. Debbie resumed her work teaching special education in the Gilmer public school system. Debbie had a love of teaching children with special needs. While teaching at Gilmer, Debbie was offered the opportunity to further her education by completing her masters degree at Texas Tech University. Debbie learned Braille, orientation and mobility, and various other skills that enabled her to teach visually impaired students. For the remainder of her twenty-eight year career, Debbie was an instructor of visually impaired students. She once remarked that one of the most difficult challenges she faced was teaching geometry to a student who had been blind since birth!

Upon her retirement from teaching, Debbie began her new career as a grandmother. She enjoyed being with her two grandchildren, Rory and Luke, driving them to and from sporting events, school events and the like. Family was very important to Debbie!

Debbie and Dick enjoyed traveling around the United States and various parts of the world with friends and family. Although Debbie enjoyed touring Italy, England, France, Russia and many other countries, she really enjoyed planning the trips. Debbie would prepare extensive three-ring binder books about each destination to be visited.

Debbie had a life well lived. She loved her family and her family was blessed by her in so many ways.

Debbie’s final words to her family were “ I love you So So much…..In Jesus name, Amen. ”

Friends and family are encouraged to gather for a time of visitation on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 6 to 8 in the evening at Midlothian Funeral Home. A service celebrating Debbie's life will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Brown Street Church of Christ, 2471 Brown Street in Waxahachie, Texas. Burial will follow at the Midlothian City Cemetery.
