Obituary for Diana Rzyski Thompson

Diana Rzyski was the third-born child and only daughter of Henry Rzyski, Sr. and Mary Francis. Being born and brought up in Chicago, she was one tough cookie. Having two older brothers, Hank and Ben, she had to be. In her early days, she was one of the cool kids in school, some might say “too cool”. Let’s just say she liked to have fun. Somewhere along the way, Jesus got ahold of her which changed her life forever. After moving to Lancaster, Texas, she ended up at DBU, but back in those days, it was Dallas Baptist College. She landed in the drama department and made so many friends doing shows at the Room-at-the-Top Theatre. A remarkable actress, she performed many memorable roles. However, her best role was being a treasured friend to so many. Later on, her daughter, A’lory, came along and was the light of her life. Off to a rough beginning in the NICU, A’lory fought her way through and turned into a lovely young woman. The two were best friends. After college, Diana was a youth minister for a while before going to the Police Academy and joining the Grand Prairie Police Department. While there she served her community in many roles including school resource officer, vice, patrol, and a desk job just before her retirement. While on the force, she always did her job to the fullest and tried to help those with whom she came into contact, whether it was her fellow police officers, her superiors, or citizens. She spoke of wanting to make a difference in people’s lives. When retired, Diana did not just sit in the rocking chair and knit. She was always looking for an adventure. She loved the outdoors where she enjoyed hiking and bird-watching. She had a heart for all animals. She loved to travel to just about anywhere. When Sam came into her life, they became like two peas in a pod. The foundation of their marriage was always to put the Lord first and to serve others. From hosting home groups, cooking food for foster families and the sick, to going on mission trips, they were “in it to win it”...for Jesus. She was a fabulous cook. Some of her specialties include: homemade spaghetti, soups, Thanksgiving turkey, and shepherds pie. Her macaroni and cheese is legendary. Diana Rzyski Thompson was a one-of-a-kind individual. She was a person who had a caring heart and a giving spirit. To say she will be missed is an extreme understatement. While those of us who knew and loved her are heartbroken, Heaven is rejoicing as she is now HOME! By Sandi Lengyel
