Obituary for Donna Jeanne Craig (Pope)

Donna Jeanne Craig, age 78, of Midlothian, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2023. She was born on February 2, 1945, at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Donna was a kind, compassionate, caring, and loving individual, known for her warm personality and gentle nature.

Donna was an elementary school teacher for 9 years before having children, and dedicated herself to raising her two sons, Jeff and Jason Bailey. Once they were old enough to attend school, she returned to work, transitioning from being a stay-at-home mom to having various jobs that did not involve teaching. She decided to go back to teaching once Jeff and Jason were in high school. She was hired at the Frank Seale Middle School, where she taught 6th grade Social Studies and Science until her retirement in 2010.

In her free time, Donna had a passion for horses. During her early twenties, she and her cousin Carolyn would frequent two riding stables in Dallas. They would race around the track, fueled by their shared love for horses. Donna would spare no expense to indulge in her hobby, often going to great lengths to spend time with these majestic animals. While her sons were still young, the family was able to purchase an Indian Paint Horse that they named Royal. Her love of horses is shared by her son Jason, who was constantly asking if he could ride him.

Donna is survived by her husband of 14 years, Peter Craig, who moved to Texas from Australia so they could get married. She is also survived by her loving family, including her sons Jeff Bailey and Jason Bailey, her daughter-in-law Rachel, and her granddaughters Kathryn and McKenna. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Purcell, her brother-in-law Dave, her niece Kimberly Purcell Brown, her nephew-in-law Justin Brown, and her nephew Eric Purcell. Donna was preceded in death by her father, JP Pope Jr., and her mother, Dorothy Pope (Clark).

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19th, from 4-6PM at Midlothian Funeral Home, located at 200 East Avenue E, Midlothian, TX 76065. A graveside service will take place on Monday, November 20th, at 1PM at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, located at 1500 South Westmoreland Road, Desoto, TX 75115.
