Obituary for Dorothy Maurine Coe (Hagar)

Dorothy Maurine Hagar Coe passed away on March 27, 2021 at Midtowne Assisted Living in Midlothian, Texas. Dorothy was born in Denison, Texas on January 16, 1923.

She graduated from Mesquite High School, Mesquite, TX, and later attended Ventura Jr. College, Ventura, CA.

She married James Thomas (Tommy) Coe in her parent's home on April 5, 1942. After WWII, they owned and operated a dry-cleaning business in Dallas, Texas, and she was the bookkeeper. She continued being a bookkeeper for many years after that.

Dorothy lived out her faith, as evidenced in her life of service. She spent most of her life in Greenville, Texas, volunteering at St. Williams Catholic Church, where she served as the Coordinator of the CCD program for 12 years. After retiring, she went on to substitute teach for many more years.

She also served as the President of the Dallas Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, President of the St. William Women's Guild, President of the St. William Parish Council, and the Women's Guild Board and Parish Finance committee. She was the manager of the Religious Articles Store. Additionally, she served as the Catholic Youth Organization leader, where she was both a Cub and Girl Scout leader.

While raised on a farm, she was a city girl at heart. She enjoyed her ladies' clubs, tea parties with pretty dishes, dancing, traveling, and the Arts.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Coe, daughter Rebecca Coe, her brother Paul Hagar, sister Mary Lou Anderson, and sister Jeanie Burcham.

Those left to love and cherish her memory are her daughter Susan Coe Lichtenwalter and her husband Tom; 4 grandchildren, Matt Lichtenwalter and wife Kenda, Amy Lichtenwalter, Todd Lichtenwalter, Mary Lichtenwalter Dvorak and her husband Craig; 7 great grandchildren; one sister Polly Carter and her husband Cecil; many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebratory mass will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas with Monsignor Zimmerman officiating. An interment will be at a later date at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
