Elma Jean Newcomb passed away November 29 after 96 years of love, laughter, and adventures, in spite of some major challenges in her life. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Ron Bryant, son and daughter-in law Rick and Madeline Newcomb, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grand children. She also leaves behind 3 nieces and a nephew whom she loved very much. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Richard "Dick" Newcomb who died in 2002. She devoted over 40 years of her life taking care of Dick after an automobile accident left him in a wheelchair at age 30. She managed to make his life as normal as possible while raising two kids and working fulltime. Jean was a planner in her job and in her personal life. She also enjoyed giving parties and doing arts and crafts. In recent years, her favorite activities were "playing" on Facebook and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her greatest love besides her family was travel. She had traveled the world with her daughter and had been on over 35 cruises with her and other family members. She had hoped to visit every continent and almost made it--all but Antarctica. She often said that she enjoyed planning and preparing for the trips as much as the trips themselves, packing and unpacking, making numerous checklists. After Dick died, she moved with Linda and Ron to Cedar Hill where she lived for the past 17 years. She loved her church and she loved Cedar Hill. She often said that Cedar Hill is her favorite of all the places she has lived. Her United Methodist Church of Cedar Hill friends were truly part of her family and she loved them dearly. Jean's body was transported to Houston for a private burial next to husband Dick. No memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to her church would have been her preference. Cedar Hill United Methodist Church, 128 N Roberts Rd, Cedar Hill, TX 75104.
