Obituary for Howard "Skip" Rhea Usherwood

Howard “Skip” Rhea Usherwood, 74, of Canton, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023. He was surrounded by his wife of 55 years, all three of his adult children, and one adult grandson.

Skip and Barbara were married at the young ages of 17 and 19 in 1968 while he was serving in the US Army. Shortly after marriage he was deployed to Vietnam and Okinawa for three years until he was honorably discharged in 1971 as an E-5
Sergeant. After serving his country, Skip and Barbara returned to the United States where he started his construction business and raised a family. Skip was a commercial concrete contractor for over 40 years and dedicated more than most to hard work. He fondly called Texas home for the last 37 of those years and cherished times on his boat fishing in area lakes and open waters. He treasured his 7 grandchildren most and beamed with pride talking about them to anyone who would listen.

Skip is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Usherwood; children: Shawn (Tracey), Chad (Marci), and Brooke (Bobby); grandchildren: Brady, Ariel, Tatum, Cook, Cale, Jackson, and Cam. He is also survived by his four siblings and many extended family members.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Vera Usherwood; and granddaughter Keaton Jane Anderson.

To honor Skip's life, the family has planned a visitation on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 9 to 10 in the morning at Midlothian Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
