Obituary for James Henry Smart

October 13, 1949 – December 5, 2022

James Henry Smart, 73, of Midlothian, Texas, passed away on December 5, 2022.

Jimmy was born in Park Falls, Wisconsin, on October 13, 1949. He lived in Illinois for most of his life, and he retired from Chicago Local 130 Plumbing Union in 2011. After retirement, he moved to Midlothian, Texas.

The second eldest of ten children, Jimmy enjoyed many activities: bowling, dancing, fishing, golfing, horseshoes, and going to the gun range. He loved spending time with his wife of many years, as well as his friends. One of his goals in life was to make everyone feel loved. His warm and friendly mannerisms helped others to feel at ease and laugh along with his wonderful sense of humor. He is well-known in Texas as the “root beer barrel man” for sharing his candy with everyone. Jimmy was truly loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, seven children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, four brothers, four sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, James K. Smart, his mother, Bertha I. Smart, nee Schultz, and his sister, Karla J. Segreti, nee Smart.
