Obituary for Jimmy Dale Hanes

Jimmy Dale Hanes
August 30, 1956 – February 18, 2022

Jimmy Dale Hanes, 66 years of age, passed away February 18, 2022 on the old family Watkins’ farm in Midlothian, TX.

Jimmy was born August 30, 1956 to the late Janell Watkins Hanes Ponder Thompson and John Hanes but was raised most of his life by his mom and James C Ponder (Papa). He was the middle of five children.
After graduating from Midlothian High School Jimmy traveled up through the northern states and got his welding certification and then was employed a few years in Alaska working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System which was finished and opened in 1977. After returning home to Midlothian, Texas he became employed by the Gifford-Hill Cement Plant (which is now Ash Grove Texas LP) until his early retirement. He loved working on the family farm and taking care of his goats, chickens and cows.

Jimmy had one son: Ben Allen Hanes; and two daughters: Dusty Dunlap and Christine Hanes. He was Papa Jimmy to eight grandchildren: Jimmy Allen Hanes; Josh, Cole, Noah, Sarah; Brandon, Aubrey and Nickolas Morrison. He was also close to his ex-son-in-law, Nick Morrison as well as close friends Stephanie Smalling, TJ Slayton and David Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his mother Janell Thompson, stepfather James C Ponder and father John Hanes. Surviving siblings are Karen McDonald, Louis Ponder, Terri Harrinton and Brenda Hanes.

Graveside services will be conducted at Mt Zion Cemetery on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 am with Justin Kaufman from Harvest Hill Baptist Church officiating. Internment at Mt Zion Cemetery after services.
