Obituary for Melvin Ray Reichert

ARLINGTON, TX – Melvin Ray Reichert, 91, died in the early minutes of October 31, 2022 from Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinsons while at his home of 44 years. He was born June 11, 1931 in Clay County Texas, the son of Ed Reichert and Ida M (Wiist) Reichert.

Mel graduated high school in 1949 and then entered the United States Army in 1952, serving as a combat medic in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. He earned the Korean Svc Medal with 1 bronze star, UN Scv Medal, National Def SVC Medal, and a combat medic badge. Upon returning home he began working with a glass and mirror company in Fort Worth. In 1966 he started his own business, Quality Glass and Mirror Company in Arlington Texas. He retired in 1995. His passion was hunting, fishing, arrowhead hunting, and collecting. He loved to tinker and could fix anything. He joined the Panther City Archery Club in 1963 where he first met the love of his life and future wife, Cynthia Dee Mills. They were reacquainted 9 years later in 1972 and fell in love and married six years later in May of 1978. Married 44 years they raised a son, Cy Royce Reichert of McKinney, Texas.

Mel is also survived by two daughters, Pam Hicks and Paula Vaughn, four grandchildren: Jason Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Joseph Hicks and Erin Hicks, three great grandchildren: Skylar Wilson, Jessica Wilson and Kaden Hicks. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Wilburn Reichert and sister Shirley Reichert Bitz.
