Obituary for Michael Carl "Mike" Schmidt

Michael Carl Schmidt. “Mike” was born February 4, 1969 in Dallas, TX. Growing up in Pleasant Grove, Mike attended W.W. Samuel High School where he was a part of the Junior ROTC. Following high school, Mike had a variety of interests and was a “jack of all trades” with his career. Mike attended mortuary school, trained with a trucking school where he was a a driver for almost 20 years. He also attended the Cedar Valley Police Academy and became a police officer, serving for 10 years. His law enforcement career spanned several departments and jurisdictions. He worked as a reserve for Glenn Heights Police department from November 2000 to December 2001. He worked for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) authority from December of 2001 until February of 2007 with their Bicycle-CBD unit. In February of 2007, he began working for the Dallas County Constable Precinct 4 in their traffic division. He received his Advanced Police Officer License.

Mike was a very proud dad, loving husband and had a very strong bond with his brothers. He was very happy to become “Grampy” to a new grandson and loved his two fur babies, especially Grampy’s girl, Princess. He loved cars & trucks, Harley Davidson motorcycles, NASCAR, and he especially enjoyed watching football & baseball as an avid Dallas Cowboys & Texas Rangers fan. He enjoyed cooking with his wife, Jenny, and his son Gaven. In the past three years he’s been able to do a lot traveling with his wife Jenny, always with a great sense of humor and a readiness to give someone a hard time.

For the last two years, Mike has fought a difficult battle with liver disease, and passed away on May 14, 2022.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jennifer M. (Jenny) of Midlothian, his son Colyn Zacha & his wife Nikolet, and grandson Colsyn Zacha of DeSoto. He’s also survived by his daughter, Baylee Zacha & her fiancé Dallas Schelling of Midlothian, daughter Saylor Schmidt and son Gaven Schmidt, both of Midlothian, brother Charles Ward of Gilmer, TX, Brother and Sister-in-law, Kevin and Lynn Schmidt of Oak Leaf, and sister-in-law Lori Bell-Schmidt of Red Oak, Mother-in-law Vickie May & her boyfriend Bob Michaels of Grand Prairie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, George Leonard and Etta Jean Schmidt, and two brothers, Tommy Louk and David Schmidt.
