Obituary for Peggy Mathis

Peggy Crofford Mathis of Midlothian Texas passed away peacefully on February 23rd, 2022, at the age of 88 of complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. Peggy was born on December 20th, 1933, in Petty Texas to Garvin and Maggie Crofford.

Peggy graduated from high school in Roxton Texas, moved to Tulsa Ok and started a successful business career with Public Service of Oklahoma. Later she founded a real estate brokerage called Peggy Mathis Properties in Desoto Texas and was elected as the first female school board member in Desoto Texas.

After retiring from real estate, Peggy became very involved in her Church, First United Methodist Church in Midlothian, and various charitable activities. Peggy never had a bad thing to say about anyone and did everything she could to lift up her many friends. And there were no strangers to her; she tried to make everyone feel special and loved.

Called Tutu by many, Peggy is survived by her three children, James Mathis of Dallas TX, Kevin Mathis of Red Oak TX, and Julie Morgan of San Diego CA. Peggy also has six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many caring nieces and nephews and their children.

Peggy was preceded in death by her Husband of 49 years Jack Mathis of Midlothian TX, and her 4 siblings. Peggy has two “adopted” daughters Grace Zamora Beckum and Sheri Mathis. The family would like to extend special thanks to Kevin Mathis and his wife Grace for their time and great care they gave to Peggy.

Peggy was a great bridge player and enjoyed frequent card games with her large group of friends.

Services will be held at Midlothian Funeral Home 200 E Ave E Midlothian Texas and Hickory Grove Cemetery in Petty Texas.

Viewing Thursday March 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in Midlothian
Funeral services Friday March 4th at 11:00 am in Midlothian
Burial services 3:00 pm at Hickory Grove Cemetery Lamar County, Petty Texas.


The family wants to extend special thanks to the great people at Arabella Assisted Living in Red Oak and the staff at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas.
