Robert Nelson, born and raised in Cedar Hill, passed away on November 24th, 2020. Born in 1930, he had recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Robert married Virginia (Jinx) in 1961 and raised her two sons, Buster and James, as his own. Roberts's most lasting impact will be greatest on the family that he created with Jinx. Despite having no biological children, Robert had an outsized impact on both of his sons, their grandchildren. He wore the hair clips his younger granddaughters would place in his hair with pride and gave horseback rides to his grandsons. At 89 years of age, it was not uncommon to see Robert still playing on his living room floor with his great grandchildren. Generations of Porter children were comforted on his lap, listening to his rendition of "She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain When She Comes." Robert is survived by by his wife Jinx, all his grandchildren, and his seven great grandchildren - the youngest of which is named after the man everyone knew as "Grandad". He is also survived by three sisters, Jettie, Janet & Agnes and lots of nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed but cherished more. He was loved very much.
