Obituary for Roy Lewis Bryant

Roy Lewis Bryant was born June 7, 1933, in Blooming Grove, Texas. to Roy Lee and Nettie Bryant. He passed away on October 5th, 2021. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jackie Charles Bryant. He grew up in the Blooming Grove and Barry area and he joined the United States Army on October 2, 1952. His company arrived in Frankfurt Germany on Christmas day 1953 where he served in the reconstruction effort of Germany following World War II. He was in Germany for 1 year, 5 months, and 3 days. He transferred into the Army Reserve in May of 1955. Roy married Laverne Sharp on July 27, 1956, and moved into Midlothian Texas in 1961 where they purchased the home that they have lived in since. Roy worked at TXI for 30 years and also
served as a dedicated volunteer fireman for the Midlothian Fire Department for twenty years from 1969 to 1989. He was a faithful member of Sardis Baptist Church and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved the Lord and all of his family.

Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laverne Bryant,
Sisters, Mary Beth Norman, Glenda Smith, and Barbara Southerland, and her husband George.

His children, Jerry Wortman and his wife Vicky, Gene Wortman and his wife Reba, Ava Cook and her husband Dale, and Ronnie Bryant and his wife Becky.

Grandchildren, Stephanie Underwood and her husband Jay, Sandra Cook, Michelle Garcia, Jacklyn Caldwell, James “Butch” Bryant, Samuel Bryant, Stephen Bryant, and Lee Wortman and his wife Courtney.
