Obituary

Carolyn Fay Powell, age 71, of Waxahachie, Tx died Saturday, October 24, 2020. She was born November 8, 1948 to Evelyn Scott Stokes and raised by her loving grandparents, Sarah Geneva McCloud and Lemuel Joseph Scott, Sr. of Gary, Indiana. She loved to share that she grew up just a couple of blocks from Micheal Jackson on Jackson St. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana and worked for US Steel Mill in Gary immediately after graduation. She then married Hershell Powell. She moved to Texas in 1987 to live close to her cousin, Valerie Banks. She worked briefly at Ford Associates where she processed loans in Las Colinas. She later worked for Countrywide Mortgages, also in Las Colinas. Carolyn attended church at the Potter’s House. She loved the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. She was passionate about dancing and listening to music. She also loved flowers and enjoyed making flower arrangements. Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sarah and Lemuel Scott, her mother, Evelyn Scott Stokes, a twin sister, Katherine Kay Scott, a brother Johnny Scott of Gary, Indiana, an Aunt who also helped raise her, Ozelle Scott Straw of Hot Springs, Arkansa, and Aunts Eliza Scott Miller of Colorado Springs, CO, Katherine Brown of Hot Springs, AR, Shirley Ann Scott Johnson of Cedar Hill, Rosie Lee Scott of Gary, Indiana, Clementine Knox and Delores Wise of Las Vegas, Nevada. Uncles who preceded her death include Louis B Scott, Joseph L Scott , Jr of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Paul Delano Scott of Indiana. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Nikki Powell of Dallas, grandchildren Cameron Washington-Powell, Briane Taylor, Darnell Cole, and Darnisha and Darnica Cole. She is also survived by her brother, Randell Shedd in Chicago, and cousin Valerie Banks of Cedar Hill as well as many other nieces, nephews and loved ones. The family would like to thank her many caregivers at Pleasant Manor who loved and cared for her for these past 6 years. She may not have remembered your names but I know she remembered how you made her feel loved , comfortable, and cared for. Arrangements are entrusted to Midlothian Funeral Home. A private family ceremony will be arranged.
