Obituary

Rick Wood, 71, of Midlothian, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Rick was born August 11, 1949, to Calvin and L. Margaret (Young) Wood in Decatur, TX. After graduating Decatur High School, he joined the Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam from 1967 - 1969. He enjoyed spending time at home with his family having many back porch conversations. He was always outside checking on his cows and horses and could not wait to go on the family trip every year to Cheyenne for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Rick was always the first one to step up and help anyone. He was a father figure to many and a hero to us.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Debra Wood and their three children, son, Eric Wood and wife Shaye of Midlothian; daughter, Britani Lindsay of Mansfield and daughter, Christi Weast and husband Lance Weast of Midlothian. And, his “Little Buddy”, his grandson, Grayson Dean Weast who he affectionately named, “Pop.” Rick was the center of their world and will be missed beyond measure.

He is also survived by, sister, Sue Winn of Midlothian, TX; Stepson, Steve Pitts of Bridgeport; his nephews Jerome Lands, Charlie Joe Winn, Ronny Eugene Winn; and his niece Erin Wood. Numerous extended family and so many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Margaret Wood; brother Red Wood and Jimmy Wood; his grandfather, John Farley Young; his grandmother, Effie Dulsa (Brown) Young; his uncles, Bill Young and Joe Young; his aunts Shirley (Young) Hayes and Emma Lee (Young) Hill.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
